SPECIALIST SERVICES
Personalised Guidance Every Step of the Way
AUTISM
Children on the Autistic Spectrum can often think creatively and retain expert knowledge about topics of interest. However, some students can feel overwhelmed or anxious in a classroom setting.
Strategies for managing sensory overload are essential, and additional support to assist with social skills and understanding can be invaluable. Please get in touch if your child struggles with sensory overload, require help managing social interactions, or needs academic support.
ADHD
Whilst a superpower, ADHD can often be misunderstood by parents and teaching professionals, leading to children being labelled as naughty or lazy. Students with ADHD can display a range of behaviour and personality traits such as disorganisation, impulsivity, poor concentration, task paralysis, relationship difficulties or hyper-focus. ADHD traits can impact self-esteem and confidence. If your child would benefit from strategies or support with their ADHD, please reach out for an initial chat.
DYSLEXIA
Students with dyslexia are known to work harder than others and often work extra hours to overcome daily challenges. This additional effort can go unnoticed but can cause the Dyslexic student to feel tired, especially when preparing for exams. Strategies for remembering, planning, structuring or organising work can help students feel more in control of their workload. Advice regarding Exam Access Arrangements can assist the student in performing more effectively in exams or tests. Academic support for the Dyslexic student can be transformational. Please do make contact to discuss how academic coaching and tutoring can benefit your child.
ONLINE
Online tuition is well received by most students and is an effective medium for engaging students and managing their focus and concentration during the lesson. The integration of technology allows for the creation of genuinely personalised lessons. My students thrive online and benefit from the one-to-one relationship that is developed.
FACE - TO - FACE
Distance permitting, face-to-face sessions are available across North Yorkshire and the Stockton area.
EXAM ACCESS ARRANGEMENTS
ASSESSMENTS FOR SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES
As a freelance Exam Access Assessor, I offer a flexible, reliable, and cost-effective service to schools and colleges. Undertaking assessments for schools relieves the Senco of this time-consuming process and ensures that students receive the arrangements they need promptly. I am a qualified teacher and hold the level 7 qualification (CPT3A) for educational testing. I am registered with the British Psychological Society and attend annual training to ensure that I am fully up to date with changes to the Joint Council for Qualifications requirements. Please see the Access Arrangements page or contact me for further details.
KS1
I provide a multi-sensory approach to help students with their retention of Phonics. I teach strategies for spelling High-Frequency Words to students who struggle with spelling, and I incorporate fun games and activities to help students secure number bonds and mathematical concepts. I plan individualised lessons to target gaps or weaknesses in the students learning. My focus is always on student enjoyment, fun and confidence building.
KS2
KS2 is a crucial stage to consolidate learning and identify gaps in understanding. Covid 19 has impacted children’s education significantly, and building solid foundations for KS3 is vital. During KS2, students with learning needs can sometimes become overwhelmed or demotivated as the demands of the curriculum increase. My teaching methods help to restore confidence and enjoyment of learning.
KS3
Students in KS3 benefit from academic coaching and strategies to support the independent learning needed for GCSEs. I frequently work with Dyslexic students to develop their literacy skills, including spelling key topic words and structuring writing effectively. Support for organisation and time management is also often needed at this stage.
